Alphabet Commits $15bn to Build Artificial Intelligence Data Center in the Indian Subcontinent
Google's parent company Alphabet is set to invest fifteen billion dollars to establish an AI computing facility in the state of Andhra Pradesh in southern India.
The facility, to be established in the harbor town of the city of Visakhapatnam, is set to become a part of the worldwide network of Google of AI centers spread across 12 countries.
"It stands as the greatest AI facility that we are committing funds to worldwide, outside of the US," Google Cloud's chief executive said at an gathering in capital Delhi on Tuesday, mentioning that the funding will be spread across the coming five years.
The revelation comes at a time President Trump of the United States has been urging US firms to give priority to investments within the country.
India's Growing Role in AI Computing
India has risen as a major hub for AI data centres. The country's affordable data pricing and swiftly increasing internet user base have turned it into a focal point for cloud and AI expansion for technology leaders.
"The infrastructure will introduce our cutting-edge technology to businesses and consumers in the country, enhancing artificial intelligence advancement and stimulating expansion nationwide," commented Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet.
Initiative Particulars
A formal agreement to complete the initiative is set to be signed soon, the Andhra Pradesh government confirmed.
"It constitutes a massive leap for our state's technological advancement, technological innovation, and global standing," remarked the minister for technology Minister Nara Lokesh.
This initiative will merge AI and cloud systems with sustainable power solutions and an broader fiber-optic system.
The State's Data Hub Strategy
The venture is part of the state government's plan to create 6 gigawatts of data centre capacity by 2029.
Data centers are actual buildings that house the computer and network hardware that companies use to gather, analyze, save, and share information.
They contain hosting servers, storage systems and networking hardware like routers and firewalls, along with the required energy and climate management infrastructure to function properly.
